Could five words change your life?

Spoiler alert: They can. Seriously. Read on to find out how…

Recently, group of gals sat around a table discussing the first chapter of my book, Seek. As we turned to John 1, each of us had a brand new “a-ha” moment which was so good I knew I had to share it with you.

Just so you’re up to speed, here’s what we read:

35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”

They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”

39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”

So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.

40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah”(that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.

Look closely at verse 39. Here, you’ll find the five life changing words uttered by Jesus.

“Come and you will see.”

Not, “Come and see.”

Not, “Come and you might see.”

But, “Come and you will see.”

You will.

If we come to Jesus we will see what we desperately need to see. Things like:

  • How do I find God?
  • How can I make it through this difficult season of my life?
  • Is Jesus really the way?
  • How can I overcome the weariness I feel deep inside my soul?
  • How can I experience forgiveness?
  • How do I get free?
  • How should I respond in this circumstance?

Time spend with Jesus illuminates areas of our life we don’t fully understand yet.

Our part is simply to say “yes” to Jesus’ invitation to come be with Him.

But here’s the mind-blowing part I don’t want you to miss–the part that could change your life.

Since, if we come to Jesus we will see what we need to see, our enemy will do everything in his power so we don’t come.

Because, if we do not come we will not–we cannot–see.

Is it any wonder that the devil throws every distraction in the book our way when we try to pray? Or read our Bible? Or think about joining a Bible study, or attending a women’s conference? Or step out to serve?

Is it any wonder simply getting to church is a BATTLE?

The devil knows something it’s time we realized, too.

If we don’t come, we won’t see.

But, Jesus offers us a better choice.

Is there some area of your life you wish were clearer? Is some aspect of Jesus you long to understand more fully?

Come. And you will see.
