Good Night. Sleep Tight. And Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite.
Except they did.
As many of you know, our son Taylor is serving with Campus Crusade for Christ in El Salvador this year. He’s living in the capital city of San Salvador with six other American college kids, working on the university campus. Their latest dilemma? One of the gals has bed bugs, and she’s battled the pesky critters for two weeks now.
I know. I know. Seriously disgusting.
And discouraging.
Have you ever noticed how just as you step out in faith to serve Christ some pesky little nuasance crops up to steel your joy? Or your confidence? Or your faith? Often it’s the almost undetectable irritants that nibble away our enthusiasm, leaving us feeling “why the heck am I doing this anyway?”
Now let me be clear. Taylor didn’t say that his co-worker was struggling this way. I just know I would be.
I know, because I’ve let lesser evils discourage me from living full out for Christ. Heavens, I don’t know what I’d do if I had to sleep with bed bugs in a foreign country!
I do know though, that the enemy will use anything and everything to discourage our service for God. While I may not face bed bugs, it’s certain I will face something equally irritating or uncomfortable. And when I do, I’ll stop and think of the girl serving Christ in a country far from home, sleeping with bed bugs.
I guess if she can do press on through something like that, so can I.
It’s 11:44pm, which means it’s past my bed time. Good night and sleep tight. 🙂
