I’m kind of a girlie girl.
But I’m not totally over the top. For instance, if you run into me at the gym (or grabbing Starbucks right before I hit the gym) you’ll see me without make-up, dressed in whatever gym clothes happened to be clean at the moment. Not exactly a pretty sight, if you get the picture.
But Saturday reminded me of why I like being a girl.
Ashton had her homecoming dance Saturday night. The previous week we shopped for the perfect shoes to match the perfect dress. We made sure she had the right jewelry and undergarments. She had her toes and nails polished. Then she talked me into having her make-up done at the MAC store.
As I sat beside Ashton I kept thinking how fun it is to be a girl. I watched as female after female took a seat and became transformed at the hands of a gifted artist. Each one sat perfectly still, placing her hopes, dreams and visions for the evening in the hands of a perfect stranger. And it took time. Almost an hour, in fact. But every single woman and girl walked out of that store looking, and more importantly – feeling – beautiful. I wish you could have seen the delighted facial expressions on those darling gals as they beheld themselves in a mirror after receiving their make-over. One sweet lady even exclaimed “Could that really be me?” I think I had as much fun watching their transformations as they had receiving them!
I wonder if that’s the way God feels.
I wonder if He is delighted when he watches us sit still long enough to place our hope and dreams and visions for the future into the hands of the ultimate artist. I wonder if He smiles when he sees us realize our very lives are in the process of being transformed when we allow Him to do his work in us. I wonder if He loves watching our faces when we finally see ourselves as He sees us . I wonder if He laughs with joy when we think “could this really be me?”
Yes. It’s fun being a girl. But being God’s girl is even better.
And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18
