As you may know I lead a Bible study for women brand new to the Bible. Most of these gals have never owned a Bible before coming to our study – much less read it. Every thing is new to them. Everything.
What’s an Old Testament?
What’s a disciple?
Why do we have different denominations?
How do I look up a bible verse?
What’s a Trinity?
And I love it.
Because I love them.
You know what I love most about these women who come in all ages, races, sizes and colors? I love the fact that though they don’t yet know God, they want to. And they are willing to risk being a bit (or a lot!) out of their comfort zone to find Him.
Although I don’t know for sure, I’ll bet that since I’m the “bible study leader” they would like to be like me. But the truth is, I want to be like them.
Their burning desire to find God, to understand what it means to have a relationship with Him and their willingness to wrestle long and hard with their questions in order to know Him, inspires me. It makes me want to drop to my knees in humility before the Almighty. It moves my soul.
In his book “The Pursuit of God” A.W. Tozier writes about what he calls “The Fellowship of the Burning Heart”:
