Are You a Perfect Mom?

By September 5, 2012One Comment

I just listened to the voice mails we received at home last night.

“Hello, this is Dr. Burch, calling you to welcome you to the first day of school tomorrow.  You are receiving this call because you have zero period.  Please plan on arriving no later than 6:40 a.m.”

Ashton left for her first day of school today at 7:05 a.m.

Oops.

It’s day number one of the 2012-2013 school year and I’ve already proven that I’m far from a perfect mom.  Believe me, this is merely the first of many “oops” we’ll have this year.

So am I feeling bad about my mistake? Guilty? Ashamed?

Nope, nope and nope. After all these years of parenting I’ve given up the myth that I can be a perfect mom.

Although maybe I should feel a little moronic, since Ashton and JP were up until 11pm trying to access his parent’s online school account, which would have told Ashton if she had zero period. We could have simply listened on our phone messages, but the Jones family rarely handles life’s details the easy way. No sir.  We like to complicate matters.

JP and Ashton never did figure it out, because JP couldn’t remember his password. I guess he’s not a perfect parent either.

Kind of makes you wonder how our kids have survived….

But they have.

And so will yours.

No, you won’t be a perfect parent (and neither will your husband, so cut him some slack).  But if you stick together, laugh at your mishaps, and learn from your mistakes, your blunders won’t be fatal.

Tonight we’ll all be in bed by 11pm and tomorrow Ashton will arrive no later than 6:40am.

Love covers a multitude of sins…and missed voice mails.

    Dear Donna
Jojo and I are meeting for our usual Java & Jesus on Monday mornings. I showed her your book that I purchased yesterday “Seek.” We got into your blog and enjoyed your story about Zero Period. We are looking forward to getting to know you. I love Crossline. Jojo and her husband, Randy really liked Crossline yesterday and they’ll be back next Sunday. Please tell JP that he only needs 498 now to meet his vision! We’ll see you Thursday at Bible study.
    With love,
    Pearl
