How Fit are You?

By May 17, 20102 Comments

First a side note: On Friday I wrote a post about my dad’s words of wisdom.  After reading the blog he sent me the funniest email:  “You made me sound like Abraham Lincoln”.  I guess the “born on a mountain top” and “one bedroom home”  (until his teen years, at least) kind of made it seem that way.  I had to laugh! Although he’s not Abe, he’s a hero to me. 🙂

Ok…now for today.

This morning I took my usual Monday weight lifting/cardio combo class (try it if you have a class like this near you!)  Only today we had a substitute teacher.  Now I must tell you that I’m not much into subs.  I’m more of a routine kind of girl.  I like the same class, the same time and the same teacher.

But today’s teacher was a rock star.

And by rock star I mean that it will be a miracle if I can walk for the next three days.

As she taught, she walked around the class correcting, encouraging and motivating us to give it our all.  And we did.  At one point she stopped right in front of me and changed the position of my arms to make the exercise more difficult.   Since we were working on triceps and I sure don’t want flabby arms shaking every time the wind blows, I loved her correction.

Now, I must tell you that I am pretty strong already.  But this gal wasn’t content to let me stay at my present level of fitness.  She pushed me to do something I wouldn’t have done on my own.  Her mission?  To make me stronger and more fit than I already am.

Which, when you think about it, is exactly what God’s word does.  The Holy Spirit uses the Holy Scriptures to motivate and correct us to become stronger and more fit for service than we are right now.

But it may mean stepping out of our comfort zone. It may mean doing something in a way we haven’t done it before.

For sure it will mean change.

And it may even be a little uncomfortable.

But you’ll become strong.  You’ll become fit.  And I don’t mean physically but spiritually.

So if you are feeling weak today open your Bible and allow God to make you strong.

If you are feeling strong, open your Bible and allow God to make you more fit for His service.

Just don’t be content to stay where you are.  Let’s get fit, girlfriends!
