I didn’t mean to eavesdrop.
But I’m kind of glad I did.
“Do the hard stuff so you can get to the good stuff”. I overheard my husband offer this advice to someone going through a rough patch in their marriage. Smart advice for just about everything in life, don’t you think?
Summer is finally here; maybe you’re tired and ready for a well-deserved break. If so, by all means take one! But if perhaps you find yourself so tired that not only do you dread the hard stuff, you’re tempted to avoid it. Don’t.
Instead, do the hard stuff so you can get to the good stuff.
It may seem easier to ignore the out-of-control toddler, or give in to the persistent middle-schooler, or go along with the way everyone else parents their teenager, but in the long run it’s not.
Do the hard stuff so you can get to the good stuff.
It may be easier to waste minutes checking Facebook or emails rather than engaging in meaningful conversation with your husband or kids, but those things don’t get you to the good stuff you really want—close, loving relationships.
Do the hard stuff so you can get to the good stuff.
It may be easier to avoid a conflict, employ the silent treatment or ignore a problem, but these methods just make problems bigger, not smaller.
Do the hard stuff so you can get to the good stuff.
It may be easier to have the cookie than go to the gym; or leave dishes in the sink rather than putting them in the dishwasher; or charge an item you can’t really afford rather than waiting until you can. But in the end, it’s just plain smart to…
Do the hard stuff so you can get to the good stuff.
Is there anything hard you’ve been avoiding? Anything you’ve procrastinated tackling? It’s time to fess up and make a change. In the end you’ll be glad you did. It’s the path all of us must take to get to the really good stuff of life.
Do the hard stuff so you can get to the good stuff.
P.S. Today we started the online SEEK summer Bible study. This morning I spent time praying for the many women who signed up for the study….and then my thoughts turned to YOU, the gals who subscribe to my blog. I prayed for you this morning. Not by name, of course (it would take weeks to get to you all ) but I prayed for you, just the same. I prayed that you would be completely filled up with the love of Christ and that you would feel His love like never before. I prayed that God would encourage you and strengthen you this day. So, dear friend, please know that today someone thought of you and loved you enough to pray on your behalf.
It was good stuff. And you know what? It wasn’t really hard at all :).
Great advice – time to do the “hard stuff” and get to the “good stuff.” Love it. Insightful and inspiring, as always. Love you, Donna!
