Sloooooooow Down!

By December 21, 2010No Comments

Here’s the question for today: are you moving too fast these days?

Too fast to enjoy the decorations and lights?

Too fast to take in the sights and smells of the season?

Too fast to laugh and talk with your kids while they’re home for Christmas break?

Too fast to kiss your husband?

Too fast to dance to music in the middle of your kitchen?

Too fast to spend time with friends?

Too fast to pray?

Too fast to be filled with gratitude for all you have – even if it’s less than in years past?

Too fast to remember that Jesus is your Immanuel – God with you?

If so, may I suggest that you slow down long enough to enjoy your own life? If you don’t, you may make it through the holiday season but you’ll surely have regrets. You might even make some avoidable mistakes. Like me.

A few days ago I used Clearasil before bed (the four hour strength kind is a miracle in a tube). I woke up just in the nick of time to make my favorite class at the gym. I threw on my clothes, brushed my teeth and stuck my hair up in a clip. I raced into the gym, right on time. However, it seemed everyone had the same game plan as I did. I must have run into about a million friends, neighbors and acquaintances while there. Of course, I had to stop and chat with every single one. After my work out I got back into my car to head home. I glanced in the rear view mirror and – horrors! – I had neglected to remove the bit fat white globs of Clearasil all over my face.

Oh how I wished I had slowed down to take care of this little detail!

You don’t want to be me this Christmas season. Especially if racing through your life at warp speed means you are missing details. Details like a hug, or a warm smile or an “I love you”. My missed detail was an embarrassment. But missing these kinds of details is a tragedy.

So what’s the solution? Sloooooow down. Slow down long enough to look at yourself in the mirror. Get rid of any excess junk – be it on your face or in your heart. Don’t overlook the details.

Then go enjoy your own life!

P.S. In answer to your question if you read my last blog post: no, she didn’t bring home a puppy. However, the puppies will be visiting us later today. My husband keeps reminding our daughters that after a visit, the dogs will return home to their rightful owner. We’ll see….:)
