We Just Can’t Do It Alone

How much do you believe in the power of prayer?  Really.

I don’t mean how much do you say you believe.  I mean how much do you from-the-depths-of-your-heart believe?

I haven’t posted in several days because, honestly, I haven’t had time.  I’ve been scrambling to get writing projects completed for the Mount Hermon Christian Writer’s Conference coming up in April. (check it out at www.mounthermon.org) I’ve been juggling teaching for two different weekly Bible studies and preparing to speak at two upcoming retreats, this weekend and next.  And oh yeah, in between, I’ve been a wife and a mom.

Through it all, the thing that’s kept me going is prayer.

Last Friday I had a scheduled writer’s group meeting, with a few writing buddies of mine who meet monthly to encourage, pray for and help one another in our pursuit of writing.  That morning I realized a major writing deadline was yesterday, when all along I had thought it was this Thursday.  Oops.  I almost skipped the meeting and worked on the writing.  But I didn’t.  I knew that if I were to finish my project well (and without stressing out myself and everyone who lives with me) the most important thing I could do was not write, but have my friends pray.  The power isn’t in me.  The power is in HIM. To try to do anything of substance–parent, love your husband, achieve a goal, overcome a habit,anything-requires more power than we have on our own.  Or at least more power than I have on my own.  For sure.

So I went to group and shared my need.  They prayed.  And boy, oh boy, did I feel it!  Words poured out of me I didn’t even know existed.  I felt energized.  Filled with the Holy Spirit.  Joyful.

I am so thankful I have women who pray for me.  Do you?

If you don’t, let me put my arm around you, give you a tight squeeze, and encourage you to find some gals who love God enough to believe in the power of prayer.  Then be bold enough to ask them to pray for you.  You might feel a little silly at first.  Some of your needs may seem too small to share, some may seem too big.  Don’t worry about any of that–those thoughts are from your enemy who doesn’t want you, or your friends, praying.

If you can’t think of anyone who can pray for you, I will.  Just send me a note and let me know how and what you’d like me to pray.

And to all my girlfriends who love God and me enough to pray–THANK YOU.

Lord Jesus,

Right now I have sweet, unknown friends who have just read this blog post and they need your help.  You’ve given each one a task she can’t complete in her own strength. She needs You–and that’s just as it should be. I pray for wisdom for every mom, I pray for unconditional love for every wife, I pray for strength and endurance for every job, large or small, you have given these women. I pray that they would be filled up with You. Remind us that our power is never in ourselves, but only in You.

Amen.

Love this, Donna. When are you at Hermy? Wish we were a teeny bit closer to there so I could zip down and say “hi”. Hope all is well and thanks for your wisdom. Love from Danville!
